Not Sure What a “Scrunchy Mom” Is?
You Might Be One and Not Even Realize!
Hi friends! Welcome to the first ever Scrunchy Mom Shop blog post! I never thought I would become a blogger- although it makes perfect sense, as I always have A LOT to say.
I realize from chatting with many of my close friends that many people out there may not realize what a Scrunchy Mom actually is. Let me explain...
A “Crunchy Mom” will usually adopt a natural, holistic and eco friendly approach to most aspects of life; they are often homesteaders who grow and preserve their own food, keep their home plastic free, and have a raw milk dealer.
A "Silky Mom" embraces modern technology and conveniences to lessen the stresses of parenting. They may allow more screen time, serve frozen prepared meals often and are generally not concerned with Red 40 and seed oils.
"Scrunchy Moms" are right in between. We look for the balance that aligns with our values and lifestyle, but remain adaptable to the realities of modern parenting. We cringe when the birthday party invitations come because we know the tables will be set with bowls of Doritos and Cheetos and the pinata will be full of DumDums and Starburst. At the same time, we are so excited for our kids to get the change to let loose with their friends and enjoy a few hours of true "kid" time- so we make the exceptions and deal with the consequences. I call this living by the 80/20 rule. If 80 percent of what they consume is healthy and homemade, then the extra 20 percent can be managed.
Want a first hand understanding of
Scrunchy Mom problems?
I have a filter for my bath and shower water, obviously right?... We have all heard about the chemicals that are in our water... but I will continue to use the mousse in my hair that gives me the best beach waves on special occasions.
I will not purchase food items that are BioEngineered, GMO or have food dyes, but a fast food breakfast on an early morning road trip is the best way to start a vacation!
I use all natural cleaning products 95% of the time but, in my opinion, there are some messes that only bleach can clean.
I try my very best to always purchase organic produce and meat. All of my bread and baked goods are made at home, many with organic wheat berries that I mill into flour myself, in order to preserve the nutrients and limit the unnecessary ingredients. However, while I'm in the kitchen cooking or baking, there is most likely an alcoholic beverage helping me through the process. What can I say... we all need to survive the day!
Are you feeling at Home here?
I'm hoping that, if you've read this far, we can be friends. I'm always looking for more information, more honest reviews, more simple tips and tricks to turn healthy living into a walk in the park instead of a trek up
What the Fuck Mountain. (I also embrace any and all curse words as I truly feel they have a freeing effect and can be used as a powerful emotional outlet. You can disagree, but just try going into your car alone and yelling something like, "What the fuck is even happening in this house full of crazy assholes who won't get off of my ass for even 30 seconds while I'm on the mother fucking toilet??????" Trust me on this one.)
Embracing a Scrunchy mom lifestyle has been so much fun, and at the same time, something of a battle. There will always be obstacles (your Silky Mom best friend, parents who think you're crazy) but, I feel, if you trust your instincts, hold your ground and enjoy creating a balanced and mindful approach to these changes, it can end up being the best thing you do for you and your family!

As a mom of 2, who wants to feed her kids the healthiest food (that they will actually eat), I started baking bread weekly. This was the first homemade swap that I made a staple in my house because it really is so easy, delicious, and something my family eats a lot of.
Here are some products I used to get started.
